The Leadership Blog
This leadership blog follows on yesterdays Zappos story, by looking at their core values. Most companies have core values. But how many truly live and breath them?
Core Values: Zappos...
So, here are the Zappos 10 Corporate Values
1.Deliver "WOW!" through service.
2.Embrace and drive change.
3.Create fun and a little weirdness.
4.Be adventurous, creative and open-minded.
5.Pursue growth and learning.
6.Build open and honest relationships with communication.
7.Build a positive team and family spirit.
8.Do more with less.
9.Be passionate and determined.
10.Be humble.
Core Values Make Good Posters!
So the pizza delivery story tells us that Values 3 & 4 are very much alive in Zappos. And those values are now strengthened in the Zappos culture, as the story becomes part of the organisation folk-lore.
Now many companies will sit down at a strtegic away-day and shape values. It will be a worthy process. The values will get drawn up on posters, and placed in offices across the company. Then what happens?
Usually they get forgotten about.
But creating a values poster is only step two. Step three is how the values are lived, breathed and monitored.
Do you, for example, begin your team-meeting by asking for examples of how the companies values have been executed this week?
Examples in story form. And are those examples written down and communicated to the rest of the staff via the weekly newsletter, or on the company website?
And do those stories then form part of the induction process, so that new members of staff can feel and know from the outset, the great behaviours and atitudes that make this company tick?
If not...why not?
