This leadership coach's blog comes as Blackpool FC's chairman Karl Oyston dismisses Saturday's FA Cup derby with Fleetwood as 'unexciting'.

Football Leadership : Karl Oyston - Unexciting!

Karl Oyston - Leadership CoachingIt's the biggest game ever at Fleetwood Town FC. A small club who have lived in the shadows of their famous seaside neighbours Blackpool throughout their existence.

Neighbours who have appeared in three finals. And won world-wide fame through their victory in 1953. The Matthews final, that established Blackpool's credentials as a famous club.

Those three FA Cup finals form part of Blackpool's DNA. But the current chairman seems to hold no awareness of that precious fact.

He has dismissed Saturday's game as 'unimportant' and 'not-exciting', and conceded that neither team can win the FA Cup. That's the spirit! These are the words of a businessman not a football fan. An accountant not a romantic.

When Ian Holloway took over as Blackpool manager, he made a strong emotional connection to the clubs past. He felt that Blackpool naturally belonged in the elite of English football. This emotional connection powered his belief and enthusiasm, which transfered to players and fans.

For the 2010-11 season, Blackpool rubbed shoulders with the very best. They weren't out of place. Because their history was brought right up to date.

And that is why Blackpool should enter the FA Cup with only one thought in mind. To win it. To honour the memory of ther clubs great players, who graced Wembley with such distinction.

But the club chairman appears to have no connection with that spirit. As is common in modern football, it's all about the money, not the power to dream great dreams!
