This leadership coach's blog, looks at the core values of the Guardian newspaper.
Corporate Values: The Guardian - Are You A Millionaire?
It's Guardian journalist Andrew Dickson interviewing theatre legend Trevor Nunn, for the papers Saturday review. Dickson says to Nunn, 'A cheeky question. Are you a millionaire?'
Given the Guardian's stand against News International's phone hacking strategy, this isn't a cheeky question. It's a hypocritical one.
Why is Dickson probing into Nunn's financial status? Which of the Guardian's core values does this represent?
The Guardian's crusading stand against News International, is a stand against invasion of privacy. But isn't the 'cheeky' questioning of Trevor Nunn just that?
Will Andrew Dickson be hauled in front of Guardian management this week, to explain his interview? If he isn't, then it undermines much of the paper's stand against phone hacking. If they truly stand against invasion of privacy, then the core value of respect must run through every aspect of their paper.
Dickson has clearly crossed the line. Will anyone at the Guardian care enough to notice? Or is the stand against News International, simply another way of selling newspapers?
